Terms of Service

1. Agreement

These Terms govern your use of Voice Kata at voicekata.com (the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to them and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. You must be at least 16 years old to use it.

2. What the Service is

Voice Kata is a browser app for practising reading out loud. It listens through your microphone, follows the line you are reading, and gives feedback on how you sound. It is an early preview, offered free of charge, and it may change or be withdrawn at any time.

3. No account

The Service has no accounts and no sign-up. Your progress is kept by your own browser. Clearing your browser data erases it, and we cannot restore it.

4. Your microphone

The Service works only with your permission to use your microphone. Your browser asks for that permission, and you can withdraw it at any time in your browser settings. What happens to the audio is set out in the Privacy Policy — in short, it is analysed and transcribed, never recorded.

5. Acceptable use

Please do not:

• use the Service for any unlawful purpose;
• disrupt, overload or attempt to break the Service, including its speech recognition endpoint;
• probe it for vulnerabilities without our permission;
• access it by automated means at a scale that degrades it for other people.

6. Intellectual property

The Service — its design, its code and its practice texts — belongs to us or our licensors, except for third-party components used under their own open-source licences. You may use the Service for your own practice. You may not copy, redistribute, or create derivative works from its content without our permission.

7. Not professional advice

Voice Kata is a practice tool, not a medical, therapeutic or clinical service. It does not diagnose or treat any voice, speech or language condition, and it is not a substitute for a qualified speech and language therapist or medical professional. If you have pain, hoarseness, or any persistent difficulty with your voice, please see a professional. Stop practising if it hurts.

8. Availability and accuracy

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that its feedback is accurate — speech recognition and voice analysis depend on your microphone, your surroundings and your device.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the amount you have paid us for it — which, for a free service, is zero. We are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Your rights as a consumer under Romanian and EU law are not affected.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. The “Last updated” date changes when we do. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept it.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by Romanian law, and disputes fall to the competent courts of Iași, Romania. If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of your country of residence and may bring proceedings there.
